Nimuzz has released an update to its social messenger application for Android-powered phones. The 2.0.1 version brings new features, such as invisible status for instant messaging accounts, contact list improvements and less power usage.

Starting with this new version, Nimbuzz users can set their status to invisible for each existing instant messaging account.

The feature can be accessed via the updated "My profile" page by tapping on their own name displayed at the top of the contact list.

From here, users can choose to be invisible for their Yahoo! or MSN buddies, for example, while remaining available for everyone else.

This way, one can still monitor the ongoing activity while appearing offline.

Another improvement delivered by the latest version is an enhanced contact list view.

The status of the contacts is now displayed on the right side of the screen, while the social community they belong to is shown on the upper left corner of their profile picture.

Moreover, the contacts can now be sorted by their status.

When the option is selected, available contacts will be shown first, followed by the ones who are busy and then by contacts with the "away" status.

And last but not least, Nimbuzz should now consume 20% to 40% less battery than before.

This happens when the application is running in the background on a 3G connection and will be most noticeable for large contact lists.

According to the developer, the battery consumption is a priority for Nimbuzz and will further be enhanced in future versions.

Besides these changes, the 2.0.1 version  also fixes some bugs reported by users.

The latest release of Nimbuzz for mobile devices running the Android operating system can be downloaded wirelessly from the Android Market, or for those who prefer to install it using a desktop computer, it is available here.
