Nimbuzz announced a new update to the Symbian S60 version of its mobile social messenger application. The 2.4 release is enhanced with several new features such as the addition of online presence to the phonebook, free SMS invites, improved kinetic scrolling, more Twitter refresh frequency options and the possibility to control the Nimbuzz connectivity while in roaming.

The new update makes it easier for users to see which phonebook contacts are online. The application now detects which phonebook contacts also have a Nimbuzz account and allows users to add them as Nimbuzz friends. This makes it possible for one to easily discover friends and call or chat with them for free.

Another new option gives users the possibility to invite new friends to join Nimbuzz via SMS. This can be achieved by simply going to the phonebook tab, selecting a contact, and choosing Invite and then Send Free SMS invites.

Owners of touchscreen-based Symbian S60 devices can now quickly scroll through their contacts due to the faster and more responsive kinetic scrolling.

The Twitter refresh frequency can now be set to 3, 5, 10, 15, 30, 45 minutes, or to manual for users who prefer to check themselves. The default setting is 15 minutes in order not to cause so much battery drain.

And last but not least, the application now lets users decide whether they want to connect employing Nimbuzz while using data roaming. By default, the option is set to Off to prevent unwanted data charges, but it can be enabled by going to Options->Settings->Connection->Data roaming and choosing On. Worth mentioning is that, even if is set to off, users can still connect should a WiFi hotspot be available.

Besides these additions, the new release also addresses several minor bugs and includes various performance improvements. Owners of mobile phones running Symbian S60 2nd, 3rd or 5th edition can download Nimbuzz for free here.
