On top of introducing the Nikon 1 S2 mirrorrless compact camera today, the photo gear maker has also taken the opportunity to unveil the AF-S Nikkor 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR super-telephoto lens for professionals photographers.

For those craving to snap quality distance shots in low light, the new lens is for you. Except, you need to take into account the new gear weighs as much as 10 lbs / 4.5 kg and costs a whopping $12,000 / €8,745.

The AF-S Nikkor 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR is certainly destined for those sports photographers who usually carry large chunks of money around.

Anyway, putting the pricing issue aside, I should note the super telephoto lens makes use of Nikon’s latest technologies, including 2 extra-low dispersion lenses, two fluorite elements and the Nano Crystal Coat.

This system is in charge of maximizing brightness and at the same time is capable of minimizing flare and aberration.

On top of its 4-spot VR image stabilization, the lens bundles a new VR sport mode that automatically takes movements into account, a key ingredient of action photography. The lens uses an electromagnetic diaphragm to deliver 9-bladed aperture.

For those with the necessary amount of dough at your disposal, the new lens will become available from Nikon starting this August.
