It appears the new DSLR won’t be the D700’s true successor

Just yesterday word surfaced that Nikon might be looking to make quite a big announcement during the upcoming Photokina event.

The company was said to be gearing up to unveil a brand new DSLR camera in a month’s time. Sources familiar with the matter said the device might be the true successor of the D700, but new info reported by Nikon Rumors reveals that the company has a different scenario in mind.

That being said, the new DSLR won’t be a replacement for the current D610 model; actually, it won’t be part of the D6xx lineup at all. Apparently, the upcoming full frame DSLR will be marketed as an “action camera.”

The new DSLR might come boasting the same 51AF points system as the D810/D4s and a higher fps rate than the one found in the D610/D810 would be nice, but this is just speculation at this point.

Yesterday's news said the camera would arrive with a 24-megapixel sensor and an EXPEED 4 sensor. It has also been said that the DSLR will boast a lightweight body and a price tag revolving around the $2,500 / €1,836 margin.

I should also mention that there’s a slight possibility the new action DSLR will make a debut before Photokina starts off in Germany.
