In the past few years, Nikon has filed quite a few patents for a new 50mm f/1.2 lens, and this time we might even see one in September at Photokina.

According to Chinese website Sina, the Nippon giant is working on two new fast prime lenses, namely the AF-S 50mm f/1.2G and AF-S 28mm f/1.4G. This is great news for all Nikon fans, since the old 50mm f/1.2 AI-s released back in 1978 is the company's sharpest 50mm lens at an f/2 aperture and, despite its age, it's still in production.

The amazing Nikon AF 28mm f/1.4D could also get a revamped version that will bear the G moniker in the near future. Launched in 1994 and discontinued in 2006, this lens was one of the sharpest Nikon lenses ever made, even when used wide open.

Unfortunately, the lens was so expensive that no one bought it and Nikon was forced to discontinue its production. Until more details are revealed, take all this with a pinch of salt since it comes from an unknown source.
