Just now, Nikon has released a new firmware update targeted at two of its COOLPIX devices, namely version 1.1 developed for the S9400 and S9500 cameras, which consists of several packages compatible with both Windows and Mac platforms.

When it comes to changes, this fresh update resolves an error that caused the movie’s video and sound to experience a timing deviation.

As for installing this firmware, first turn on the camera, go to Menu → Setup → Firmware Version, check to see if the currently installed version isn’t either newer of matching this release, and only afterwards get and run the proper downloadable package for your system configuration.

When done, copy the newly-created “firmware” folder onto the root directory of a compatible memory card, insert it into the camera and power the device on. Now, go to the “Firmware Version” section once more and simply follow the on-screen instructions for a complete installation.

Upon completion, turn off the COOLPIX unit, remove the memory card, and check the currently installed firmware version to ensure the upgrade has been successful.

Bear in mind that, since an update failure can cause serious device malfunctions, while the installation is in progress it is highly recommended that you don’t remove the SD card or take out the battery.

With this in mind, download Nikon COOLPIX S9400 Camera Firmware 1.1 or download Nikon COOLPIX S9500 Camera Firmware 1.1 depending on which device you own, and apply the latest firmware version on your device.
