Announced back in February along with the D7100, Nikon WR-1 is a wireless remote transceiver that can be mounted on your camera's hot-shoe and serve as a transmitter as well as a receiver to control and verify camera settings.

The WR-1 Wireless Remote Controller uses radio frequencies to communicate instead of infrared signal, which extends its capabilities and makes it suitable for various applications when the photographer needs to control cameras remotely.

Although planned for March 2013, Nikon Japan announced on its website that Nikon WR-1’s launch had been postponed until late April 2014, without giving any other explanation on the matter.

The controller is already available for pre-order at B&H for $549.95 / €400, but it will come with a hefty price tag of £650 / €778 / $1,071 when it is launched in Europe.

This doesn't come as a surprise, since the recently released Nikon Df DSLR has already been criticized by European customers due to the outrageous price difference between UK and US markets.
