The rumor mill claims that the Nikon camera will arrive in time for Photokina

Is this too good to be true? If the ever spinning rumor mill is to be believed, we’re headed towards a pretty big announcement from Nikon, which is of course scheduled to take place on the grounds at Photokina in September.

According to Mirrorless Rumors, which talked to a seemingly trusted source, the Japanese camera maker is preparing a medium format camera built around the hyped Sony 50MP CMOS MF Sensor.

Surely, this information should be taken with a ton of salt, as the source says they only heard of this camera, which doesn't exactly mean such a camera indeed exists.

However, this would explain why Nikon filed a patent for a 100mm f/2.5 medium format lens last September. In almost a year, the company had time to develop the technology, so it might as well introduce the new gear in time for Photokina 2014.

A medium camera coming from Nikon will certainly draw a lot of attention at the photo show in Germany, where Canon is also expected to debut its 7D replacement. On top of that, Sony has been in the rumor mill regarding the same issue, as the company is said to be working on a compact Medium Format camera in the vein of the RX bunch.
