Most DSLR owners will know that making the transition from compact cameras and point and shoots to DSLR is quite a journey in itself. DSLRs use involves a whole host of subtleties and nuances most every-day photography enthusiasts aren't aware of.

Acquiring the needed skills to competently use a DSLR might require a lot of study time as well as trial & error session with you camera. But now, Nikon is looking to give a helping hand for those looking to perfect their DSLR skills.

The photo gear manufacturer has released a series of instructional videos that employ the help of renowned photographers, including Joe McNally, Corey Rich and Tamara Lackey.

The series is entitled Behind the Scenes and according to Nikon, the videos are “dedicated to empowering and entertaining intermediate level photographers by equipping them with the skills they need to take their photography to the next level.”

The videos will cover a whole host of subjects from learning how to best use lighting to action shooting and portrait shooting. The first video in the series to be released is the Nikon BTS: Reading Light curated by Joe McNally.

McNally will walk you through the possibilities of using the Nikon Speedlights and off-camera flash techniques.

Over the course of five videos, he will help users understand the best ways of using lighting regardless of the situation they are shooting in. So you’ll be reunited with McNally in week four of the series with “Small Lighting, Big Results.”

The follow-up for the first episode is scheduled to appear on March 20 and is called “Golder Hour Expedition” and will be presented by Corey Rich.

The last concluding video will be brought to you curtesy of Tamara Lackey who’s best known for her family photography. Good news is there’s something for everybody in the series, so if you’re not interested in family photography, you could still be curious of finding out more about action shooting, let’s say.

“With this video series and the new community on Google+, Nikon is there to support photographers as they explore visual storytelling and tap into their creative potential.”

The first video that launched “Reading Light” is pretty short and you’ll be able to go through it quickly. Even if the tips presented in there don’t have real life applicability for you, the series should still prove fun to watch and will give you insights on how these famous photographers work and come up with their amazing works of art.
