After their Pure Photography campaign and six video teasers later, Nikon officially announces their new retro-styled camera, Nikon Df. The new camera design is inspired from the classic film cameras (F, F3 and FM/FE), but incorporates the latest digital technology from Nikon’s flagship DSLR.

With a 16.2-megapixel full frame CMOS sensor (36 x 23.9mm) borrowed from the D4, the new Nikon Df can produce amazingly detailed images even in low light conditions, taking advantage of the exceptionally wide ISO range (100 to 12,800) that can be expanded to an impressive ISO 204,800.

The AF system is similar with the one on the D610 with 39 selectable AF points, 9 cross-type sensors and 7 AF points capable of working down to f/8. A 2016-Pixel 3D matrix metering and scene recognition system will instantly determine proper camera settings for each shooting scenario, which translates into an accurate white balance, even exposure and precise AF.

For those passionate about fast moving subjects (sports, wildlife photography), Nikon Df comes with a continuous burst shooting rate of up to 5.5 fps. The back of the camera holds a 3.2’’ / 8.13cm LCD screen with a 921K-dot resolution that will ease the process of viewing images and making the required settings.

The viewfinder is a single-lens reflex pentaprism with 100% accuracy and 0.7x magnification that gives a bright field of view. Wi-Fi is also supported by the new Nikon Df through an optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter that will allow you to download and share your photos on any device and even remotely trigger the camera.

The Nippon giant also announced that Nikon Df will hit shelves later this month at a price of $2,749.95 / €2,036 for the camera body and $2,999.95 / €2,222 for the Df and 50mm f/1.8 Special Edition lens kit.

Nikon Df camera tech specs are quite impressive for such a small camera body and offer film camera enthusiasts a new reason to give digital photography a try.
