Nikon started refreshing its line of point-and-shoot cameras with a series of new models featuring slightly improved specs, just like the Coolpix L810 Super Zoom that we are going to take a look at in this article.

As is the case with any Super Zoom, the focal point of the new L810 is its lens. In the case of the Nikon camera, the lens features a maximum 26x magnification, which makes it the equivalent of a 22.5mm-585mm lens in the 35mm world.

This powerful lens is coupled with Nikon’s VR image stabilization technology, as well as with a 16.1MP CCD sensor, which should offer plenty of resolution for larger print sizes, although this is definitely not the best option out there when it comes to taking pictures in low light conditions.

The ISO 80 to 1,600 sensitivity won’t help much in this regard either, but the 1cm macro mode could make up for this inconvenience for some of you.

Other features include a 3.0-inch rear LCD display with 921,000 dots, 19 in-camera scene modes, a special 3D mode that simulates an extra dimension in your images, as well as the ability to record HD video at 1,280x720 pixel resolution.

The Coolpix L810 also comes equipped with 50MB of built-in memory and is powered by a pair of regular AA batteries.

"Today's family spends time together in more places than the dining room table; they are on adventures and vacations together, constantly in motion and creating memories," said Bo Kajiwara, director of marketing, Nikon Inc.

"Nikon's latest Coolpix cameras combine Nikon's renowned image quality, advanced performance and superior technology to offer simple and affordable cameras for every member of your family," concluded the company’s rep.

The Nikon Coolpix L810 will be available later in February, in various colors, including black red and blue, for a suggested retail price of $279.95 (214 EUR).
