Nikon might be rushing to refresh its popular D800 as soon as this year

Earlier this month I told you there was some speculation going around indicating Nikon might be looking to refresh its D800 DSLR camera as soon as this year.

This might sound a little counterintuitive, especially since the camera has two variations: the D800 and D800-E (does not have a low pass filter to allow better resolution in images) users can choose from.

More than that, the previous D700 managed to live on its own for a long time without being refreshed, back when it was released in 2008.

Anyway fast forward towards the end of the month and NikonRumos was able to dig out the first rumored specifications for the upcoming Nikon D800s.

According to them the new camera won’t have a low pass (AA) filter (just like the D800E mentioned above) and will bundle improved software to suppress moiré, Expeed 4 imaging processor, improved lighting capabilities. Furthermore, users can expect to see the same AF improvements in the D4s, 5fps continuous shooting (6fps with the MB-D12) and sRAW.

Judging by the intensified rumors, Nikon might indeed launch the D800s this year, maybe this September at Photokina. If not, there’s a possibility the photo gear manufacturer might be saving it up for CES 2015. Who knows at this point, my guess is as good as yours.
