Last month we stumbled upon a rumor that said Nikon would announce the D3200 successor (D3300) at the beginning of 2014, right in time for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 that will take place starting January 7 through January 10.

According to NikonRumors, the Nippon manufacturer will also announce besides the new D3300 model a new kit lens, namely the Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G DX VRII.

It seems that the new lens will feature a new collapsible barrel somewhat similar with 1 Nikkor lenses, such as the 10-30mm f/3.5-5.6 VR II, and will have a significantly smaller body that will make it lighter than previous kit lenses by about 200 grams.

Earlier this week, some inside sources announced that Nikon was also preparing to reveal a Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G full frame lens at the same event, designed to offer a cheaper alternative to Nikon's 35mm f/1.4G FX lens currently priced at $1,619 / €1,175. The lens will also join his smaller and cheaper brother, the 35mm f/1.8G DX designed for APS-C format digital SLRs.

While the specs of the new D3300 have not yet been leaked, if we take in consideration Nikon's sensor trends for their latest cameras (D610, D7100, D5300), the new model could come with a similar 24MP sensor without an anti-aliasing filter.

Nikon's decision to refresh its D600 and D5200 models before replacing the entry-level D3200 took everyone by surprise, and CES 2014 might be the perfect occasion to announce the successor of this model before this year's Photokina imaging fair that will take place in September.

Less than a month is left until CES 2014 and we'll find out soon enough if these rumors are true or not. What do you think about a new entry-level kit lens that will replace the current 18-55mm? Let us know in the comments section below.
