Today Nikon has just released a few new firmware updates for some of its compact and entry-level digital SLR cameras. Among them, D3100, D3200, D5100 and D5200 cameras received a new firmware update, which improves overall battery performance for each model.

This firmware addresses an issue found in each camera, where the remaining battery charge was not precisely detected for the EN-EL14a rechargeable Li-ion battery. It seems that only users of the EN-EL14a battery model will benefit from this new firmware update.

After you upgrade your camera firmware to this new version, you will also see an increase in the number of possible shots as well as video recording time, due to the optimization of the EN-EL14a battery.

If you own any of the Nikon D3100, D3200, D5100 and D5200 cameras and want to take advantage of a prolonged battery life, you should update your camera firmware right away.
