Besides the recently uncovered patent for new Nikon 400mm f/2.8, 600mm f/4 and 800mm f/5.6 lenses, the latest rumors state that the Nippon optics manufacturer is planning to announce a new full frame prime lens.

According to NikonRumors, the company will announce a new AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G full frame lens at the beginning of January, 2014, most probably at the CES 2014 show, which will take place in Las Vegas from January 7 through January 10.

This lens will probably offer a cheaper alternative to Nikon's 35mm f/1.4G FX lens, which is currently priced at $1,619 / €1,175. In addition to that, Nikon has another 35mm f/1.8G lens built for APS-C format sensors that's already very popular among photography enthusiasts for its very good image quality and low price ($196.95 / €143).

I guess we'll just have to wait and see if Nikon will make its move at the CES 2014 show. What do you think about this new alternative for the 35mm f/1.4G?
