The first screenshots of the iPhone Nike + app have surfaced

The first screenshots of Nike's upcoming application for iPhone have emerged on the web. It was already common knowledge that Apple and Nike were planning to introduce yet another version of the Nike+ equipment, this time for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch. The leaked UI screens are here to confirm their progress.

It is rumored that the extended compatibility with Apple's devices is most likely going to make great use of Wi-Fi and 3G (at least with the iPhone) for uploading training data "on the fly." What the screens (courtesy of the iPhon website) clearly say is that Nike + users will get all sorts of performance graphs right on their handset's screen. Users normally have to upload their data on the web to get such results but, hopefully, with the introduction of a Nike + iPhone app, that won't be necessary (not so often, anyway).

However, just like Gizmodo points out, the most pleasant surprise is, of course, Google Maps support. Users will likely be able to map routes, set their routes, and have the software take into account all the route details, to ultimately establish more comprehensive statistics. Also, since the new Nike + app will be capable of accessing the web on the go (an obvious step for the Nike + equipment and software), users won't have to go home and check everything out on their computers. Sure enough, this option will not be removed.

Nike + users (and their personal trainers) can track workouts on cardio equipment by inserting the Nike+ sensor into the Air Zoom Moire shoe pocket (or any other Nike+ ready shoe) which connects to the iPod, wirelessly. The workout data is converted into CardioMiles, so users can track how much they've used the cardio equipment. Also, users can set goals and participate in challenges using the device and the Nikeplus.com service. The kit is able to store information such as the elapsed time of the workout, the distance traveled, pace, or calories burned by the individual wearing the shoes, and to display it on the screen or broadcast it through the headphones of an iPod.
