The message is reminiscent of a series of Yankees-Red Sox games

Nike is pulling an item from stores in view of the Boston Marathon explosions that have killed three people and injured another 170.

Apparently, they were still selling “Boston Massacre” shirts until a producer for “Late Show with David Letterman” tweeted about it, HuffPost says.

It might sound cruel and completely inappropriate, but the blood-spattered tagline actually refers to the Yankees beating the Boston Red Sox, during two separate seasons.

The “massacres” took place in 1978 and 2006, and I don't think you'll see a lot of fans wearing them these days. The company apologized and promised to take them out of outlet locations.

“In light of the tragedy in Boston we took immediate action last week to remove this product from distribution. We conducted this process as quickly as possible and are confident the product has been removed from distribution,” Nike reps note.
