The tights design used traditional Samoan tattos

Nike is pulling a product that appears to have offended the entire population of Samoa. Their Pro Tattoo Tech tights are designed to depict tattoos, but draw inspiration from some traditional Samoan patterns.

Said patterns are used in tattoos in the country and have a specific significance. First of all, they are only worn by men and usually chosen by people living in the country.

The Nike range was designed as sportswear for women, so Samoans believe that their culture has not been accurately conveyed.

There have also been several complaints about exploiting the traditional national motif without compensation or permission.

"We apologize to anyone who views this design as insensitive to any specific culture. No offense was intended," the company has expressed in a statement, as reported by TVNZ.
