Justice is blind, they say. Sure it is! Maybe for us, regular folks, the saying applies but, when it comes to celebrities (and I'm not speaking here only about the kind of celebrities I write about every single day), they always seem to get the better part of the deal. I mean, I don't know what would happen if anyone of us would get caught walking around with cocaine in our pants or if we got drunk behind the wheel two consecutive times. If our names happen NOT to be Lindsay Lohan or Nicole Richie, a judge would probably throw the key away...
But being Nicole (yes, even if she does nothing to deserve all her fame) is special. And that is why, for her second DUI (which also meant a violation of her parole), she gets... wait for it!... 4 (as in F-O-U-R) days in the slammer! A California judge sentenced the petite star yesterday morning, after she pleaded guilty on the charge of driving under the influence, following her second arrest for the same reason.
On December 11, Nicole was apprehended after she was spotted weaving in and out of traffic on the highway, going in the wrong direction. When the police officers arrived at the scene (after being summoned by a couple of worried motorcyclists), the socialite admitted that she had drunk alcohol within the last hour, as well as smoked pot and taken painkillers. She was taken downtown, where it became clear that she was at her second DUI over a short period of time, arraigned and released on bail. She was scheduled for a court hearing yesterday.
So, the fatidic day finally came: Nicole arrived at the courthouse in the company of her current boyfriend and alleged baby-daddy, Joel Madden, and, with perfect composure, pleaded guilty. The judge sentenced her to five days in a city or county jail (her choice which one!) and, a couple of minutes later, reduced the sentence to four days because she reportedly already served six hours of it when she was arrested and detained. Man, it certainly can't get any tougher than this! Nicole was also ordered to pay $2,048 in fines and to attend a mandatory alcohol education program. She must serve her sentence by September 28.
Now, if Lindsay also has the same 'luck', maybe she too will get to spend only a couple of days in the pokey for her latest bust.
