The Pussycat Dolls have broken up and fans finally have confirmation of it straight from founder Robin Antin, following many months of speculation and contradictory reports. In a statement released to blogger Perez Hilton, Antin confirms the PCD as we know them are done and will never do anything in the same format.

There’s good news too, Antin assures fans of the popular act, which was, as it’s common knowledge, first set up as a burlesque dance troupe. Nicole Scherzinger, the lead singer of the band and reportedly the reason behind the split as well, will hold on to the position she has, which means a new band will be formed around her. Fans shouldn’t wait that long either, Antin says.

“I created The Pussycat Dolls in 1995 with one thought in my mind: ‘Inside every woman is a Pussycat Doll.’ It was my dream to spread this message around the world. For the past fifteen years there have been many amazing versions of The Pussycat Dolls. We began with Christina Applegate and Carmen Electra sharing the stage with many talented women, many of whom went on to pursue dreams of their own. And today is no different,” Antin says (though, for the record, she is referring to the dance act and not the recording band).

“Some of the girls who have shared the stage and spotlight with Nicole are ready to begin artistic journeys of their own and I support them completely. And so, too, must I keep moving forward. I am happy to announce the creation of a NEW Pussycat Dolls, with Nicole Scherzinger continuing on as lead singer. We hope all our fans will join us on a journey that will prove to be a once-in-a-lifetime dream for many girls around the world,” Antin adds in the same statement.

Though the three members who’ve left the band these past few months did not badmouth Nicole, rumors abound that she was the cause for dispute within the band. It wasn’t necessarily that she was doing something, but she was getting more attention than the rest of the girls and this wasn’t fair when they were admittedly all equal, reports said.
