Nicole Ritchie Pregnant, Hence She May Not Go to Jail

I bet that when Lionel Ritchie decided to adopt Nicole he did not think that she would turn up to be such a media hogger. You just have to say that she is Paris Hilton's co-star in "The Simple Life" and she is an instant hit for the tabloids. But Nicole wanted to stand out on her own.

So last December she got in her car and drove the wrong way on a Los Angeles freeway. When the cops pulled her over, she failed the sobriety test, but she also admitted that she smoked some pot just before she took some Vicodin. Therefore, the DUI charges ensued and Nicole is scheduled to appear before the judge on July 11.

That's not good, considering the California driving code. It stipulates that if a driver is busted for DUI twice in less than 10 years, s/he could serve some jail time between 90 days and 12 months. Well Nicole finds herself in that exact situation, having been busted on the same charges back in February 2003.

And yet, chances are that Nicole Ritchie may not be going to prison at all. Because you can't send a pregnant woman to jail. That's right, y'all! Nicole is pregnant. Well, we're not 100% sure, but TMZ have put their name on the line that Nicole is knocked up and that's good enough for us.

The identity of the father is no mystery. It is Good Charlotte's frontman Joel Madden, who has been dating Nicole for six months now. The couple are reportedly busy planning their wedding which is set to happen some time this summer.

When the media asked Nicole's father if he knew of her pregnancy, Lionel Ritchie responded in good humor. The singing legend believes that his daughter is that kind of person who does not tell anything to anyone until the very last minute. He is sure that if he asked Nicole if she is pregnant, she will deny anything, and she will only confirm when the pregnancy becomes too visible.

Now this does not mean that Nicole is no longer going to jail. That's for the judge to decide so we now await for the court's decision on July 11.
