I must say, Nicole Richie talking things like baby diets and breastfeeding makes me want to make a few phone calls and check whether the world is ending and the sky is falling, you know, things like that. I mean, who would have ever imagined that the waif-like, selfish little princess with the heart of ice and the eating and drinking disorder could actually become a parent - and a (seemingly) responsible one for all that? Certainly not me. When Nicole was arrested for driving drunk on the wrong side of the road, if you had asked me where I'd see her in a year's time, I would probably have said "in jail" or "in rehab" - and definitely not happily at home looking after her baby daughter. Which goes to show that even in Hollywood, good things do happen.
Don't get me wrong now - I'm not a fan of Nicole's and I've never liked her much - nor am I praising her for doing what millions of other women do without being in the news for it, namely, look after their own babies. But I do think that she did a great job turning her life around, even if there are still the occasional slips. Besides, Nicole herself is quick to admit that having a baby forced her to re-assess her priorities. "It's almost like I don't even remember what life was like before her. She gives life a whole new meaning and a whole new purpose", the socialite stated for an exclusive People magazine interview, which also features the first pictures of her baby girl, Harlow Winter.
Nicole also talks about breastfeeding - and as I was saying earlier, I really have to pinch myself from time to time, just to make sure it really is her talking about such mundane, non-glamorous things. "There's just so much I can't eat because she's sensitive", Nicole states. "I eat really bland [food] - chicken noodle soup, vegetables, fish. I had to cut out milk, no tomatoes, no lettuce. You think you have to cut everything out when you're pregnant, but you really have to cut everything out when you're breastfeeding". Wow. Nicole Richie is talking about food. I mean, she's actually talking about eating chicken soup and fish and vegetables... just like an ordinary human being. Nicole looks happy and healthy and her baby girl is cute and sweet - so all quiet on the Richie front for now. Fingers crossed things stay like this.
