Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn were accused by Zimbabwe Government of being part of a CIA plot to campaign against President Robert Mugabe.
Acting Information Minister Chen Chimutengwende declared that "The Interpreter", a movie about an assassination attempt on an African dictator, was a thinly disguised swipe at President Robert Mugabe.
Mr Chimutengwende claimed the African president from the movie had "obvious connections" to Mr Mugabe and stated that "The CIA is behind the release of this scandalous film."
"The film just shows how careful we have to be and that we should know that our enemy is very powerful," the Harold quoted Chen as saying. "We should plan to counter Euro-American imperialism."
"The film talks about an African president going to the United Nations and our president is going to the (United Nations) next week, so the connection is so obvious," Chimutengwende said. "It is part of a CIA-sponsored fight ... but we will defeat them and we will defeat neo-colonialism. We have defeated a powerful enemy before which was colonialism."
