Nicole Kidman talking about her personal life is a rare treat. This makes me think that her fans will definitely jump at the chance mercifully offered to them by the October issue of Vanity Fair: learning some of the inside truths hidden away and carefully locked inside the actress' well-polished closet has never seemed so real - and yet, it all stays somewhere between illusion and tentatively hinted-at reality.
It's been a good year for Kidman, although some people surprisingly used the word "comeback", to refer to her probably because the Australian actress was last seen on a movie on the big screen in 2006 and now she stars in no less than three movies. One of them, the science-fiction thriller "The Invasion", was already released, while two more are lined up for this autumn and winter: "Margot at the Wedding" a comedy of sorts co-starring Jack Black and Jennifer Jason Leigh which opens in November, and "The Golden Compass", an adventure drama based on the acclaimed novel by Philip Pullman which opens in December.
Comeback or no comeback, Kidman sure knows how to steal the spotlight when she puts her mind to it. Her "confessions", while still retaining an air of casual conversation, are meant to make the readers feel just a tiny bit involved in the star's life and yet keep them securely at bay. But the actress does confess to going through several painful experiences, such as having a miscarriage, seeing her husband go into rehab for alcohol abuse and handling a long-distance relationship.
"From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies. And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that's when it came that we would adopt Bella", she states. And apparently, her husband Keith Urban's rehab stint has been more of a learning curve than
a source of distress for her. "I've learned an enormous amount having a relationship with someone who is in recovery. I'm more than willing to walk it with him" she confesses.
"We were in a very, very, very bad, painful place and have managed to step through it, and I hope that gives some people some hope who may be in the same place. And that's enough said. Anything else is overindulgent and unnecessary right now". And she confesses that she definitely wants a baby from Urban. "I'm yearning to have one. I think I would be very sad if I wasn't able to have a baby. Keith knows I want one, and he has been getting there slowly". Well, since everything sounds so swell, all I can say is that I'm looking forward to seeing more of Kidman on the big screen, as I'm pretty convinced she won't disappoint.
