Speculation that this was just a massive PR stunt to promote a new album is confirmed

Last week, during an interview with MTV News, DJ Khaled had a surprise message for Nicki Minaj: taking out a huge diamond ring, he asked her to marry him, saying he loved her and wanted to grow old with her. Nicki is now saying that the whole thing was just a hoax.

Just a couple of days after she was spotted out and about wearing a huge diamond ring on her engagement finger, Nicki is going on the record to say that Khaled’s marriage proposal, even though it appeared to be in earnest, was nothing but a silly joke.

“Khaled is my brother and Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal, y'all,” she says, as cited by the New York Daily News.

“I was shocked just like the rest of the world and I was cracking up laughing with the rest of the world 'cause Khaled is a master at what he does,” the rapper continues.

In other words, Khaled was merely trying to drum up publicity for his new album and single by pretending to ask his friend and collaborator to marry him.

“It was just another way for him to kinda give the world a glimpse on the feeling of this record,” Nicki says.

The record in question is even titled “I Wanna Be with You,” came out this week and will be included on Khaled’s new album, “Suffering from Success,” which comes out on September 24.

Both these phrases were used in Khaled’s so-called proposal and were considered first hints that he wasn’t really serious, as we also noted at the time.

“Please let it go. He was kidding. He's not attracted to me, he doesn't like me. We're brother and sister,” Nicki says.

Whether DJ Khaled was ready to reveal to the world that his proposal was never serious, is yet to be determined. The other day, he told the media that he had meant every word of it and was still waiting to hear back from Nicki.

He has now.
