The new season of American Idol sees singer Mariah Carey and rapper Nicki Minaj sit on the panel of judges with the aim of giving aspiring singers a chance to make it big in the industry. So far though, there’s been a lot of talk about how these two can’t stand each other at all.

Rumors were confirmed when a video of an explosive fight during auditions emerged online.

Asked by Ellen DeGeneres the other night what that was all about, Nicki said it was “just two big old divas, I guess.”

Nicki explains that she’d first heard how Mariah did not want her on the panel but she refused to believe it until she showed up for the first day of auditions.

“I went there and I started to feel a bit of the shade. And I just kind of over compensated by being crazier...,” she says.

That only made Mariah dislike her even more.

“If you know someone maybe doesn’t like you. It's kind of like, now you’re gonna like really go in and show hey, because it’s like a defense mechanism. You know what I mean? It’s really that. Your feelings are hurt and you can’t believe it so you kind of just compensate with being crazy,” Nicki adds.

She insists she and Mariah have called it a truce ever since, but she still dreads the live shows because she can’t “control” herself.
