Divorce is definitely happening, but it’s not bitter

For all those of you still holding on to the hope that Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey will work through their problems and not end up in the divorce court, or even thinking that all that divorce talk was just a rumor, here’s a (sad) wakeup call: the divorce is happening.

Just like it was Nick who first broke the news that he and his wife of 6 years were no longer living together (and had been leading separate lives for many months), it’s also Nick who’s confirming the divorce in a new interview cited by Us Weekly.

The good news is that the split doesn’t seem to be bitter, so there’s always that.

Nick wishes Mariah “nothing but the best”

Nick has been doing several interviews as of late, partly to promote his gig as host on America’s Got Talent. Just yesterday, he came to Amanda Bynes’ defense, shaming all those who found her ongoing public meltdown, which he believes is caused by mental issues, funny and telling them to cut it out with the mockery because this was no laughing matter.

Today, he’s addressing a more personal issue, that of his split from diva Mariah. Yes, they really are getting a divorce.

“I’m just taking everything one day at a time and just being the best person that I can possibly be at the end of the day,” he says, adding that he wished his soon-to-be-ex-wife “nothing but the best.”

He also confirms what we already knew, namely that he’s having the tattoo with Mariah’s name from his back covered up, with a much larger piece of Jesus on a cross and a giant angel with spread wings above it.

Apparently, that’s still a work in progress.

“It's not finished yet,” he explains. “It wasn’t supposed to be revealed yet… I had just gotten it done, it was painful… It hurt a lot and I’m still not finished, I’m still probably like six more sessions away.”

Divorce is confirmed, but don’t expect any dirt on the split

So, now that we know that Nick and Mariah are getting a divorce, it’s time we moved on from this story because that’s all we’re going to get out of it – at least through the official channels. Nick seems determined to keep mum on the reasons that led to the split, and Mariah is too much of a lady to ever discuss this, with all the juicy details included.

However, she’s not above dropping a hint here and there, which is what she did just recently, while performing in Japan, when she changed the words to one of her songs, “Don’t Explain,” to say “I know you cheated mother[expletive]er,” which was perceived as a direct jab at Nick.

If you want to know the alleged reasons for the divorce, these include anything from Mariah’s impossible diva behavior and her being a closeted alcoholic to Nick’s infidelity and their constant fights over how their twins Moroccan and Monroe were being raised.
