14 DAY TRIAL // If you still had hopes of seeing Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon make it as a couple after the most recent wave of divorce rumors, now would be a good time to leave those at the door: as they say, a photo is worth a thousand words, and a photo has emerged to confirm that Nick has given up on the marriage for good.
Mariah and Nick were married 6 years ago after a whirlwind and very surprising courtship, and proved all haters who said they would split soon wrong, by staying together for all these years. News that they were having trouble at home and that it was so serious as to make them consider divorce as a viable option came as a shock.
It was first just a rumor, though it did emerge on TMZ, which is the celebrity go-to publication for inside scoop. Nick Cannon then confirmed it, saying that he and Mariah had been living apart since May and that the only times they got together, it was exclusively for the kids.
However, he stressed, they weren’t even considering divorce just yet, let alone have all its details already settled. TMZ had previously reported that the divorce was all but done, and that they had met with their attorneys and reached an agreement on financial and custodial issues.
Nick’s denial about the divorce was the equivalent of him saying that they would get back one day, once they had worked through whatever problems they had that made them call for a time out.
The second photo in the gallery below is of Nick on hosting duties for the new season of America’s Got Talent. He’s not wearing his wedding band anymore, TMZ notes, which is a first in all his 6 years with Mariah.
It could be just a coincidence, but the day before, Mariah too was spotted out and about sans her wedding band. One female paparazzo tried to get her to say a few words about the rumored split from Nick, but she just ignored her, until she eventually said, “sorry dear, it’s too hot for that.” Video is available at the link in the paragraph above.
As for what made these two superstars grow apart, that’s anybody’s guess right now. Insiders claim that Nick wanted out of the marriage because he was concerned about Mariah’s mental health and how that might affect the children, or that they fought over who made more money, or that Mariah grew sick and tired of him always being away on work.
At one point, there was even some talk about infidelity on Nick’s part, but he denied the rumor, saying there was absolutely no truth to it.
Whichever the reasons they separated, it seems that both have given up on the marriage and are ready to go public with it.
