If Mariah Carey could, she’d probably have the Christmas break extend for the entire year. There is no other celebrity out there who loves Christmas more than she does and the thought of spending it either alone or just with her twins must have been heartbreaking for her fans, the Lambs, as she calls them.

Mariah and her husband of over 6 years, Nick Cannon, ended their marriage earlier this year, with Nick confirming the sad news months later, in the most casual manner. At the time, they had already been living apart for months, he said, refusing to disclose the reasons behind the split.

Nonetheless, rumor had it that it was anything but amicable, with fans fearing the kids, 3-year-old Morocco and Monroe, would be caught in the middle of a very nasty divorce.

Nick and Mariah have the twins' best interest in mind

That won’t be the case, Nick assures the same fans in a statement to InTouch Weekly. No matter what made their marriage an impossibility and brought them apart, they remain focused on offering their bundles of joy the happiest life possible.

So, Nick and Mariah will be spending Christmas together, he confirms for the publication. The plan is to have a “wonderful” vacation together, “somewhere cold and snowy, like Aspen [Colorado],” just like they did every year since they started dating.

Because Mariah loves Christmas so much, she can’t conceive to have one without snow, so she’s a fixture in Aspen. In an older interview, the diva admitted that she had a Christmas tree in each of her many residences, including one in the Aspen hotel suite, because the kids had to feel at home on Christmas morning, when they looked to see if Santa had brought them anything.

“We talk and text every day,” Nick says of his current relationship with the singer. “My children are my No. 1 priority. Everything I do is for them. I just want to be the best father I can possibly be.”

What went wrong?

This is the question that celebrity publications have been trying to answer since Nick broke the news of the split. He insists that the breakup is amicable and that Mariah remains the love of his life, but admits that things got “rough,” so rough that they realized they could not continue married.

Depending on who you believe, a variety of things went wrong in the marriage, from Nick’s wandering eye to Mariah’s insane jealousy fits, her excessive boozing, and her diva-approach to childrearing.

Unless one of them or both decide to discuss the details of the divorce with the media, chances are we won’t hear them from someplace else. That they’re determined to handle this with grace could be seen from the fact that, when they confirmed the split in August, they had nearly finalized all agreements before filing the divorce papers.

In other words, in between the actual split and the announcement, they had met with attorneys and had discussed everything, from custody arrangements to financial issues and the stories they would be telling the press.
