Nick Cannon Is Furious with Mariah Carey for Accepting American Idol Gig

By accepting to be a judge on American Idol for the 12th upcoming season, Mariah Carey became the highest paid celebrity on a show of this kind, but that's clearly not helping things with her husband Nick Cannon. He's furious with her for accepting the gig, says a new report.

Nick never wanted her to take up the new job, sources close to the A-list couple say for The National Enquirer (story via CB) because he'd always imagined she'd stay closer to home after the birth of their twins.

It's not that he expected her to step down from the limelight altogether, but he never thought she'd accept a gig as time-consuming as that of American Idol judge is, which means she'll be spending very little time at home with her family.

“While he’s publicly said 'she’s gonna be amazing on Idol,' an insider said that 'privately, Nick’s gritting his teeth and dead-set against her taking the job',” the tab writes.

As the insider puts it, this is the reason Nick said some time ago that Mariah would never be on Idol because producers simply couldn't afford her because she'd command double the money they paid Jennifer Lopez before her.

He was trying to make Mariah as inaccessible as possible in the media, the report claims. At home, he was working to convince Mariah that staying at home would be a far better choice at this point in her life.

“Nick was tossing around outrageous salary figures in hopes of pricing Mariah out of the market. Right until the eleventh hour, he was begging her to pass on the offer,” says the spy.

“He was dangling incentives – diamond jewelry, a luxurious spa vacation, even promising to pay her a one-time 'gift' of $15 million [€12.1 million] for saying no. Nick wants her to be a stay-at-home mom to their twins, at least until they turn 5. He was even hoping to have another baby, but Mariah has effectively scorched that dream,” the source further explains.

Because of all this, the two are either fighting a lot or not speaking to each other, which is literally breaking the hearts of both.

“The truth is that Mariah just misses the limelight too much, and Nick feels betrayed by her choice… the two are hardly talking,” the insider adds.
