14 DAY TRIAL // Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were the oddest couple in showbiz for over 6 years but they seemed to have found the recipe to making it work. With their twins, aka Dem Babies, they always came across as the perfect family, who managed to navigate fame while not putting themselves too much in the spotlight.
The end is near for these two, reports say. The other day, word got out online that they had been living apart for many months and that all divorce negotiations were all but done, with their attorneys hammering out the final details of the financial and custodial agreements.
There was also some talk about the possible reasons for the split, with infidelity and money being among the biggest: he had cheated on her and she was upset that he was spending so much time away, which, he claimed, was so that he could bring money to the family.
If you were hoping for this to be just an unfounded rumor, we have sad news. Chris Spencer, creator and executive producer of BET’s new show Real Husbands of Hollywood, happens to be a close friend of Nick’s and, on The Insider hours ago, he confirmed that there was trouble on the home front for Nick and Mariah.
“He said ‘yes, [we’re] going through a rough patch. There's nothing to do with infidelity.’ He didn't confirm that it was over, but he did say that they've been living separately for a few months now,” Spencer said on the show, as the video below can confirm.
So yes, Nick and Mariah are no longer living together, and if her social media feeds are any indication, the only times she and Nick came together (and posed for pictures) were on Mother’s and Father’s Days. They haven’t been seen in public together for months, which could also confirm talk of a split.
As for what caused the “rough patch” and made Nick move out of the family home, rumor has it that it was his tendency to over-share in promo interviews. Earlier this year, he talked about 5 famous women that he’d slept with, including Mariah, naming Kim Kardashian, Nicole Scherzinger, Selita Ebanks, and Christina Milian.
He also told Howard Stern that Mariah made him wait until after their wedding day, which was fine by him because “c’mon, that’s Mariah we’re talking about!”
Insiders claim that Mariah didn’t appreciate having him all over the media dishing out intimate details, and after he namedropped Kim Kardashian, she just couldn’t let him forget about his slip of the tongue. The fighting got progressively worse and he decided he should move out for a while, until she cooled down enough to be willing to let this go.
In his most recent interview, Nick did say that Mariah had been giving him hell at home for being so generous with this kind of intimate details, and stressed that he would not say anything at all on certain topics – so we know that at least this part is true.
