Sunderland Chairman is certainly very happy of appointing Roy Keane as future manager of the club. After making it official yesterday night - Keane signed a 3-year contract - the former manager of the club and current chairman admitted that part of his choice was because it would have been the only way to "scare my players".
Losing 5 out of 5 in the beginning of the season is
certainly not something anyone should be proud of. And, soon after sacking himself from the coaching position, Niall Quinn chose Roy Keane as future replacement.
"I hope the players are scared of him so they will give it their all in training. The demands on a player at a club like Sunderland are big anyway. It's a very, very demanding place. They know they will have new standards. All those standards will lift now", said Quinn after his team's first success of the season - 2-0 against West Bromwich Albion.
Still, one cannot forget the fact that Quinn and Keane did not get along so great when working for the Ireland national team. The Sunderland chairman was actually one of the reasons Keane refused to play for the Irish team. Now, almost 4 years since that incident, Quinn wanted to assure the club supporters that nothing like that is to happen again between the two.
"All chairman and managers row; we just got ours out of the way over the last few years. We feel so fortunate to have got Roy; he's a world-class attraction. People are shaking their heads wondering how we pulled it off and I'm feeling a bit like that. But it's happening and it's great", concluded Quinn.
