Nexus S by Samsung, the first mobile phone to come to the market with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, is not available for pre-order in the UK, Carphone Warehouse announced.

The retailer has put the new device on pre-order on its website with a price tag of £549.95 attached to it for those who would like to purchase it free of contract or on a Pay As You Go basis (with a £10 top up included for the latter).

In case there are customers who would like to have the new device on contract, they can choose from a wide range of plan options with various wireless carriers in the country.

For example, the device was made available for free on £35 per month plans at O2, Orange and Vodafone, while T-Mobile has it available for £49 on a similar monthly deal.

The Carphone Warehouse, in collaboration with Best Buy UK, was announced as the exclusive retailer for the new Nexus S by Samsung on the local market.

According to the retailer, those customers who will pre-order the device now should receive it before the end of the ongoing year.

“Nexus S is the most powerful Android powered phone. It’s the first device to run Android 2.3: also known as Gingerbread, and the only phone with a curved 4-inch Super AMOLED display. Nexus S from Google – a whole new level of smart,” the company notes on its website.

When it comes to the features list of the new handset, here's what Carphone Warehouse states:

- Gingerbread is here. Android 2.3 gives your phone a clean new interface and makes it faster and more intuitive. - Stunning 4 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, curved to fit the contours of your hand and face. - Speedy 1GHz processor and dedicated GPU for fluid gaming, video streaming and web browsing.

The said £35 monthly plans available for Nexus S future owners come with various amounts of minutes and unlimited texts, while offering up to 750MB of data.
