With Google confirming that it’s not going to offer an official Android 4.4 KitKat update for Samsung Galaxy Nexus, we’re 100% sure that this applies to Nexus S as well.

However, the community always finds ways to bring most of the features included in the latest Android releases. This time, XDA Developers forum user cn.fyodor made it possible for Nexus S owners to taste all the features offered by Android 4.4 KitKat.

He built an AOSP KitKat 4.4 for Nexus S directly from Google source and put it online for everyone to flash it on their devices.

cn.fyodor explains how he “took the Google source and CM kernel/vendor for crespo as a base and had done lots of optimization work for several months.”

According to him, this Android 4.4 KitKat ROM for Nexus S “runs pretty fast” and seems to be almost bug-free, even though it’s an alpha build. For more details on how to download and flash this custom ROM, head over to XDA Developer forum original thread.
