Following roughly a week of pre-order availability, the Android 2.1-based Nexus One by HTC is now on sale at Vodafone in the UK. Unlike the launch of the device in the United States, Google chose to have the Nexus One available for purchase on this market, as well as in additional European countries, via a carrier, and not via its own web store. Vodafone is the operator to bring the device to the UK, and should also launch it in France (SFR), Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain shortly.

Boasting a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, flash and video recording capabilities, as well as a 1GHz Snapdragon processor inside, the Nexus One can offer an enhanced user experience to Vodafone's customers. The handset offers access to Google Maps Navigation (which includes free sat nav with Street View and traffic) and to the Android Market, from where users can download applications to personalize the experience offered by their device.

“Take all things Google with you when you're out and about. The powerful new Nexus One from Google combines the latest in hardware with the newest Android software - making it super fast for internet browsing, Google Maps, Picasa and more. The Nexus One's 3.7" touchscreen is perfect for watching YouTube, enjoying photos and viewing websites. And if you've got Google Mail, adding all your accounts is easy. All this in a slim, stylish phone - on our fast, reliable network,” the wireless carrier notes.

The specifications list of the new mobile phone includes support for GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900MHz, HSDPA and GPRS, along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, built-in GPS navigation, microSD memory card slot for additional storage space, PC synchronization capabilities, Email, IM and other messaging features, support for Vodafone Mobile Internet, MP3 player, and a battery that can offer up to 420 minutes of talk time, or up to 250 hours of standby time. The Nexus One measures only 119 x 59.8 x 11.5 mm.

Those interested in the device will find it available on the carrier's website here. The Nexus One can be acquired for free upon the signing of a 24-month contract agreement with Vodafone on a monthly plan starting from £35.
