iPhone and DROID outsold it eight times in 74 days

At the beginning of this year, Mountain View-based Internet giant Google entered the mobile phone selling market, with the launch of the Android-based Nexus One by HTC exclusively via its online store, and now the first estimates on the sales performance of the device emerged. According to Flurry, Google managed to sell a number of 135,000 Nexus One units during the first 74 days of availability, a rather small amount when compared to the sales of other popular handsets on the market, such as the Motorola DROID or Apple's iPhone.

“Earlier this year, Flurry estimated both first week and first month sales of Nexus One Sales compared to Motorola Droid and the first generation iPhone, among others. Despite the fact that the Google Nexus One is the most advanced Android handset to date, and enjoyed substantial buzz leading up to its release, the launch has been overshadowed by lower than expected sales. In our previous reports we offered several possible reasons including unconventional choices in marketing, pricing and distribution,” Flurry notes.

According to the company, it chose to make a comparison of the first 74 days of availability of Nexus One, DROID and iPhone mainly due to the fact that this is the amount of time it took Apple's device to reach the 1 million sold units mark. However, Nexus One will hit that day on March 19, it seems, which means that the last days of the time frame are forecast at the moment, since only 70 days passed until the report was published.

When looking at the chart offered by Flurry, it becomes obvious that Nexus One has seen very small sales compared to the iPhone, not to mention the Motorola DROID, which outsold Apple's handset too. Both the DROID and the iPhone went eight times higher than Nexus One when it comes to sales, though the marketing conditions of these devices are completely different, and their performance was greatly influenced by this, one should agree.
