The first ever Android-based mobile phone to be sold by Google itself is now available in even more flavors than before. Originally launched only with support for T-Mobile USA's 3G network at the beginning of this year, AT&T customers in the US can now enjoy the handset on their carrier's airwaves, and the same applies to mobile phone users in Canada on Rogers' network.
According to a recent post on the official Nexus One blog, the new versions of the mobile phone, which went live on Google's web store on Tuesday, will offer users the possibility to enjoy support for AT&T’s 3G network. At the same time,
the handset is also compatible with Roger's network in Canada, and is also compatible with most GSM operators around the world, something that applies to the originally launched model too.
“In early January, we announced the Nexus One, the first device sold through Google's web store.
The Nexus One is unlocked, which means you can use it with a SIM card from most GSM operators worldwide. Currently the device is compatible with most 3G networks, including T-Mobile in the US. However, there are some carriers that have different 3G frequencies, such as AT&T in the US and Rogers Wireless in Canada, so users with these SIM cards can only access 2G or EDGE networks on their Nexus One,” the blog post notes.
Those AT&T users willing to try out
the Nexus One, the first mobile phone launched on the market with the Android 2.1 operating system on board, should head over to Google's web store, where the device is available for purchase free of contract. The price tag for Nexus One has been set at $529.00, while the shipping is made for free in the continental US. Although no info on the matter was provided, there are also chances that a contract option with AT&T will soon be offered.
The same price tag is available for Canadian mobile phone users willing to try the Nexus One on Rogers' airwaves.
The phone will be shipped to the country from Google’s web store, and can be used with a SIM from Rogers Wireless, Google notes. Additional details on the device and the newly added models can be found
