Will still take place in Hong Kong and Taiwan, Reuters states

Mountain View-based Internet giant Google reportedly canceled plans to launch the Nexus One by HTC mobile phone on the market in China, although the company was expected to do so as soon as next week during an event in Beijing. This is the second such move the company makes when it comes to the mobile phone market in China, following the postponed release of other Android-based devices last month.

It all started with Goolge's treat to leave the country following issues with the Chinese government over censorship on search results for Internet users in the country. According to a recent article on Reuters, the aforementioned event in which Google was expected to show software developers in Beijing its first smartphone, the Nexus One, was scrapped, at least this is what unnamed sources stated.

Moreover, it seems that the company will still hold already planned events regarding Nexus One's launch in Hong Kong and Taiwan, but won't make the move in China. “If Google did not have such an issue with the Chinese government, they would have conducted a similar event in China too,” the cited source stated.

Back In January, Google threatened to shut down its Chinese portal and leave the country due to censorship related issues with the government and citing a hacking attack from within the country, Reuters notes. Shortly after, the company also delayed the launch of Android-based mobile phones on the Chinese market, even if the Chinese government said that it wouldn't limit the use of handsets based on Android in the country.

The move might hurt mobile phone makers which already focused on the development of Android-based devices, and there are also chances that Google employees in China might remain jobless, Reuters notes. However, Google is reportedly in talks with the Chinese government to resolve the situation, but no details on the discussions were made public until now.
