Holland-based manufacturer of cooling devices Nexus has just unveiled its latest products to join the XiR family: the XiR-2300 and XiR-3500. The processor coolers can work with both Intel and AMD chips and deliver
optimal heat balance versus noiseless operation.
The coolers share the same specifications, shape and even come with the same fan, but they are made of different materials. While the XiR-2300 has aluminum-based cooling fins, the XiR-3500 uses copper for optimal heat dissipation and improved aesthetics - an extremely important aspect for system builders and PC modders.
The manufacturer managed to mix its different technologies in order to achieve a heatpipe-enabled heatsink structure that can optimally cool down the processor at a minimum amount of blown air. This way, the top-mounted fan is able to perform at lower rotations per minute. The design is based on four heatpipes installed on a SkiveTek cooling base.
The XiR-2300 is built on ultra-thin aluminum fins, while the XiR-3500 has the same thin fins except for the fact that they are made from pure copper. The aluminum version weighs 382 grams and is targeting at regular PC users, while the copper cooler is a "little" heavier (736 grams) and is addressed to PC enthusiasts and CPU overclockers.
The fan speed is controlled by a temperature sensor. It spins between the low-noise 1200 RPM
