The mythical Nexus 9 tablet returns to the rumor mill more avidly than ever as of late, so we can be confident that the device will soon make a debut onto the market.

Most of the specifications for the device are already known, but there are still two major unknowns while the new tablet is concerned.

First of all, when is the Nexus 9 finally introduced? And then, will it come equipped with Android L or not?

Well, new information coming from Android Authority, who managed to get ahold of some sources familiar with Google’s plan, seems to shed some light upon these matters.

Nexus 9 to launch a little bit later than previously expected

The Nexus 9 has been until now expected to be unveiled during HTC’s upcoming event, scheduled for October 8, that will take place in New York.

But today we learn this might not be the case. HTC will go on to do its thing and unveil a bunch of new smartphones and a GoPro-style action camera, but we won’t see the Nexus 9 on this date.

According to the sources, the new Nexus tablet will see the light of day either on the 15th or the 16th of October, that's a day after HTC’s big launching event.

On the same date, Google will take the opportunity to unveil its “newest software imitative” which probably refers to Android L.

Even if the Nexus hardware will be shown off for the first time in mid-October, the finally version of Android L will be pushed on the November 1.

Dates of when the Nexus 9 will ship out are still blurry

The sources don’t clarify if the first day of November is the date when the Nexus 9 with Android L onboard will be made available for purchase or when the units start shipping out to customers who placed a pre-order.

We’re also left in the dark concerning the dates when existing Nexus tablets will get the Android L update.

So if we are to believe these rumors, we are three weeks away from when the Nexus 9 and Android L will be introduced, so keep your fingers crossed.

A few days ago, a report confirmed that HTC was indeed the manufacturer behind Google’s latest tablet. As a matter of fact, Google has been offering its support to the smartphone-focused Taiwanese company, assisting it in the development of the model.

When it arrives in the wild, the tablet should come with a 2K display and bundled with NVIDIA’s latest powerhouse, the 64-bit Tegra K1 processor nicknamed Denver.
