We might be able to grab such a tablet as soon as April this year

There has recently been talk about Google axing its Nexus line and using the Play Edition moniker instead, or maybe something new altogether. But information coming out of Asia seems to counter this speculation, by claiming that a new Nexus tablet is coming as soon as the end of April.

The rumors also indicate Google won’t be making a third-gen Nexus 7 tablet, due to seeing disappointing sales for the device.

The situation has been blamed on the increased competition in the 7-inch market, which is apparently swallowing in devices with decent specifications too. On top of that, due to the enormous amount of products available today, fatigue has set in.

Therefore, Google is expected to move towards the 8-inch category, turning the next-gen Nexus 7 into the Nexus 8.

But Google will be facing enough competition in the 8-inch market too, where tablets like the Dell Venue 8 Pro and LG G Pad 8.3 have already been launched. Even so, a new convincing Nexus 8 concept shows us what Google should bring to the table, to have a shot at the 8-inch market (via Tablet-News).

Several rumors claimed ASUS would remain the manufacturer for the new Nexus 8 and the concept follows that line of thought. Apart from that, the tablet should come with an IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels and draw power from a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 CPU complete with Adreno 320 GPU.

Two cameras will be added on board (2MP up in front and 3MP on the back with flash), but we would have expected something better in this department. Moving on, the concept sheet indicates the latest version of Android, meaning probably Android KitKat 4.4 should be the default OS on board.

We even get a starting price for the purported Nexus 8, as the 8GB model would cost $199 / €146. Judging by the fact the LG G Pad 8.3 is currently priced at $350 / €257, the Nexus 8 might be a very appealing choice.
