14 DAY TRIAL // After Apple’s WWDC, the next big thing in tech will certainly be Google’s I/O conference, scheduled to take place on June 25-26.
The event will most likely be the platform for the unveiling of anticipated new products. We speculated a while back that this might be the perfect time for Google to roll out the Chromebook Pixel 2, but that’s just hopes and dreams at the moment.
Anyway, more realistically speaking, the Nexus 8 tablet is almost certainly one of the new devices we’re going to see Google put on display before our eyes.
The slate has been one of the most intensely debated topics in the tech field for months. For starters, the Nexus 8 is Google’s first attempt at 8-inch tablets. Additionally, the device should arrive with a 64-bit processor and be manufactured by another hot mobile tech player, HTC.
In anticipation of the big event, the guys over at Gforgames (via MyDrivers) have managed to stumble upon a pretty interesting finding. They have posted a duo of photographs allegedly portraying the upcoming tablet, equipped with a protective shell.
On top of that, the source revealed a bunch of information regarding the specs of the tablet. Let’s see if they concur with what we know so far.
According to this recent piece of news, the Nexus 8 will arrive with a Qualcomm 64-bit processor. This is in dissonance with earlier rumors suggesting that the slate will take advantage of Intel’s Moorefield 64-bit processor instead.
Nevertheless, we should point out that both SoCs have been said to arrive in consumer-ready devices in the first half of 2015, so you should be taking this information with a grain of salt.
Moving on, we’re told the slate arrives with 3GB of RAM and runs Android 4.5 out of the box. The new OS is expected to introduce a number of optimizations that will help support the 64-bit architecture better.
Earlier reports confirmed the fact that Android 4.5 would be unveiled at the event, but we didn't know for sure whether or not the Nexus 8 would take advantage of the new OS.
The new information doesn't specify anything related to the tablet’s display or to the price tag. According to what we knew before, the Nexus 8 should boast a 2K display and be marketed with a higher than average price tag.
It’s also possible Google will be testing the market with the Nexus 8, so we’re going to see limited batches of the tablet arrive in retail at first.
