Google is apparently struggling with finding an adequate solution for the issues

Most Google Nexus 7 (2013) users have probably updated to the latest build Android 4.4 KitKat, but even so they continue to be plagued by a series of bugs that appeared ever since Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Back then owners were complaining that their tablet would randomly shut down. At the same time, the charging time seemed to increase from a bearable two hours to a lengthy eight hours (via AndroidOrigin).

With the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat update, which has been made available via an OTA update, Nexus 7 users were hoping the bug will go away, but that didn't happen.

The search giant has acknowledged the issue and said it had its teams investigating the issue to hopefully provide a fix as soon as possible. As for the slow charging issue, Google said it didn't find a way to solve the problem.

Here’s the official answer from Google’s support team:

“Hi everyone, thank you for your continuous patience as our team looks into this issue.”

“If you’re having trouble starting up or charging your Nexus 7 tablet, try leaving it charging for a while using the charger and cable that came with the tablet.”

“If it still won’t start up after it’s been charging for a while, please see this Help Center article for some additional tips.”

“If you’ve tried the suggestions in that Help Center article and are still experiencing problems, please contact the company you purchased your tablet from for additional assistance. If you purchased your Nexus 7 directly from Google you can learn more about contacting the Google Play support team here.”

It’s a good thing Google is taking a deep interest in solving the problem, but by the way things are moving along at the moment, we might end up seeing a fix by the time Android 4.5 comes along.

So far, the best option you have is keeping away from Android 4.4 KitKat and choosing a custom ROM based on Android 4.3 instead.
