It’s a mystery whether Android 5.2 is real or not

A reference to Android 5.1 popped up online ever since last year, when we told you we might see the new build arrive in February packed with bug fixes and other improvements.

Well, the latest version has already been spotted on some Android smartphones currently shipping out in Indonesia and yesterday Google rolled out two new handsets which come equipped with the same version of the OS.

A while back we told you that the Nexus family was bound to be among the first devices to bundle this particular OS version on board. Well, the fact is that the Nexus 5 has just been spotted running the new, unreleased Android 5.1 Lollipop at Geekbench.

The benchmark was uploaded on February 16, so it’s very recent. However, a few hours later we were faced with an unexpected surprise.

Android 5.2 makes an appearance on the Nexus 5

The LG Nexus 5 was spotted again in the same database with Android 5.2 this time. The benchmark was uploaded on February 17, so it’s even more recent.

So what exactly is going on here? Is Google testing multiple versions for the Nexus 5 trying to figure out which one will be more beneficial for the handset in question?

Judging by the test results, it seems the answer is pretty ambivalent. With Android 5.1 onboard, the Nexus 5 scores 907 points single-core and 2997 in multi-core, while with Android 5.2 we’re seeing 934 points in single-core and 2992 in multi-core.

In all possibility, the Nexus 5 running Android 5.2 might be a practical joke, but on the other hand, who can say for certain what Google ends up pushing for its Nexus bunch, when the time comes?

We don’t really know what Android 5.1 will bring in terms of improvements and we have absolutely no clue related to similar matters when it comes to Android 5.2.

The most recent hearsay claims Android 5.1 won’t be focusing on new features, but mostly on minor tweaks and the much-needed bug fixes.

After all, there’s plenty to fix while Lollipop is concerned. And some of us are hoping the update will bring the much-needed Silent Mode feature back. Keep your fingers crossed.
