Just 0.7 inches thick

Even if Nextar isn't as famous as the likes of Garmin, Mio, TomTom or Magellan, the truth of the matter is that the company offers quite an impressive lineup of GPS personal navigation devices, most of which, however, share pretty much the same features and specs, with relatively minor differences. Nevertheless, that's not at all the case with the company's latest announcement, namely the SNAP5 and SNAP7 models, which, at a thickness of just 0.7 inches, are among the world's thinnest products of this type.

The two PNDs feature 5 and 7-inch touchscreen displays, respectively, which sport a 4:3 native aspect ratio. Both come with built-in stereo speakers and text-to-speech technology that clearly pronounces road names and turn-by-turn voice prompts in English. Software support is provided for English, French, and Spanish, the three most widely-spoken languages in the covered areas.

Furthermore, a special automatic night mode offers additional screen lighting for easy-on-the-eye viewing of the TeleAtlas maps (3D display of landmarks also supported). Other interesting navigation-related options worth mentioning are the automatic route recalculation system and the fact that the devices store a very large number of POIs, which means that users will most likely find anything of importance in their immediate vicinity.

Both units support MP3 playback and JPEG viewing (via the SD card) and are powered by built-in rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries. They're also accompanied by a stylus, which helps users navigate through the menus a lot easier.

Nextar's SNAP5 and SNAP7 GPS navigators are slated to arrive in stores at some point in the spring of 2009 and will retail for somewhere around $299.99 and $349.99, respectively, which are some pretty OK price points, given the types of products we're talking about and the features and specs they provide.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
