Cupertino-based Apple has been long rumored to be working on a new version of its highly popular iPhone, and it seems that even more confirmation on this device has just emerged into the wild. The pieces of info on the upcoming device have been discovered in the frameworks of the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK, and they give a codename for the handset, namely N89. Considering the fact that previous versions of the iPhone sported codenames like M68, N82, and N88, it is only natural to assume that N89 is the next iPhone flavor.

The codename for the next version of the iPhone has been brought to light by the guys over at Engadget, and they note that the codename for the iPad is also present there, the K48 that can be seen in the screenshot attached to this article. At the same time, they also note yet another interesting discovery, namely the fact that the codename for the next version of iPod touch, which would be N80, also emerged recently, included in the iPhone firmware 3.1.3 that Apple has just delivered.

In case there are some of you who might not know why there are two versions of the iPhone OS, we should say that Apple chose to deliver a separate software solution, the OS 3.2, for its newly launched iPad tablet. At the same time, the company has delivered an upgrade for the iPhone and iPod touch, in the form of iPhone OS 3.1.3, and will continue to work with two different firmware versions. Developers also have to comply to this, as they need to work with 3.2 iPhone SDK to build apps for the iPad.

However, it might not be too long before Apple decides to launch the newly uncovered versions of the iPhone and iPod touch, which might suggest that developers will only have to use one SDK in the not too distant future. Until more details on the matter emerge into the wild, the one thing that seems to be certain now is that the codename for the future versions of iPhone and iPod touch should eliminate any doubt regarding their arrival.
