Next Zelda Already in Development?

SHARE:

Adjust text size:

As the latest installment in the Zelda series was released not so long ago, rumors have started appearing about a new Zelda game, and according to those rumors, a new game that will top this Nintendo series is already in the works.

The December issue of Game informer reports that a new Zelda game has been in production for over a year and that it should come out sooner than expected.
This rumor is signaled by Strategy Informer.

According to Game Informer, they have concrete sources who tell them that the next installment in the series has been in deep development for about one year. They also confirm that is unlikely for Nintendo to release two Zelda games a year apart.

As you know, The Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess, was just released on Wii and Nintendo GameCube. Frankly, I don't know who will buy the GameCube version of the game, or who owns a GameCube for that matter. Twilight Princess is the first game in the series to be rated T by ESRB, for animated blood and fantasy violence. I'm "sure" that this will prevent little kids from playing and completing it.

I don't know how the new Zelda game will be called or any details about it, but I can tell you that Twilight Princess begins with Link living in Ordon Village working as a ranch hand. He is asked by the village's blacksmith to deliver the Ordon Sword to Hyrule Castle. He embarks on a journey with the mayor's daughter Iliam and Rusl's son Colin. Once they leave their village, they are ambushed by a group of monsters. Ilia and Colin are kidnapped and Link is left unconscious. I'm not going to spoil everything, so if you want to know how the story turns out, go and purchase the game.

they certainly better make another Zelda game continuing with the amazing graphics of twilight princess... the public demands it... and the public is who dishes out the cash!

Well, actually I do have the gamecube version, because thats how it was meant to be released. For years it was the new Gamecube Zelda, and to own two copies of it (One's mine and one's my boyfriend's) both on the GC blows your opinion out of the water.

As for new Zelda development, the only thing I've heard is that Nintendo want Zelda to be 'First Person' which I hope is not true.

well, i own a gamecube, and the legend of zelda twilight princess has as much, and i might say, even better on it, no offense for the wii, but i felt playing zelda on the wii, like that inch in your ass you cant really reach, great games, and the latest installment on the new zelda game i hope will be bigger, because to be honest, wind waker for me, had better gameplay than the twilight princess, not bieng able to look around you, inside castle town, really frigin blows, i hope nintendo gets this message, and they can give us a first person view, around castle town, and hey, when is the tloz movie coming out!?!? ah!?!

I think they should make a RBG Zelda game, like Fable sort of, only with Link and in the Zelda world. It would Kick Ass!!!

Comment #5 by: johnny on 27 May 2008, 00:48 UTC reply to this comment

game informer had recently had an article over the next zelda game being possibly written by the man who had come out with the halo games for bungie. he wants to make the map much much larger and add new weapons on top of keeping all of the greats from the previous games. he also wants to ad new ways to travel such as possibly armored elephants or a flying pegasas. or a glider. while still keeping epona and your classic zelda warping ideas and your sail.

Comment #6 by: K on 12 Jun 2008, 01:26 UTC reply to this comment

as excited as i am about a new Zelda, i cant say that i think they looking at the right director. Halo is awesome series, like zelda; but they're pretty far from the same genre. As mentioned in his interview he said that he wants to make the games more action based which isn't such a bad idea, but if he removes the addicting puzzle gene from the game he's pretty much gonna redifine the the series, destroying the bases that have made it a top seller and an all time gamer legend. Beefing the game up is a pretty good idea, but the stuff i've been hearing like a swich to first person is gonna drive away die hard fans and ruin it for newbies. Nintendo hasn't made many commentable mistakes with any more of their brain-children, so i hope i'm getting worked for nothin.

for gods sake pleas don't give them your son of link idea because it does not go along with the other zelda games at all.

Sorry but, they're not making your game.

"Son Of Link"? No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No, No A Thousand Times No. That is about the Worst (and stupidest) Zelda idea EVER!

Come on, what's next -- Bride of Link, or The Return of the Son of Link? Jesus where will it end? Putting "Son of..." anything on front of a title, just screams no thought, waste of imagination and complete mediocrity.

Nintendo was just humoring you, to be nice. I'm not going to be. Being mediocre and uncreative is fine for YOU, but don't punish the rest of us with that crap. If THAT's the best story idea, you can come-up with, the next time you have an "idea" DON'T!

I personally think it should have some of twilight princess and some of wind waker I have beaten both and there both pretty good but it needs
a better villain. Zant did not exactly blow my mind and Ganondwarf just flat out sucks.

i think that a new zelda game will come out in 2009.
this is because a new zelda game (not hand held) comes out once every 3 years.
for exsample ocarina of time was brought out in 1997
then majoras mask in 2000
then wind waker in 2003
and then twilight princess in 2006
and by chance the next will be in 2009 and we may see trailers around september this year and have a idear about the game, my gess is its already in production.

i think that twilight princess was the number one game out of all the zelda games.infact,it was the only game iv'e played in the series and it made me love anything that has to do with hyrule and link.just this one game made me crazy for it.idk if any of you feel the same way but i want the nintendo staff to make a better, funner, and more lovable game.anything zelda i will play or watch.like the new movie coming out in april 1st 2009.if you want a sneak peak of the movie,go to youtube.com and search for the legend of zelda movie.it's not animated and it follows the story of twilight princess.although i would have preferred to it being animated but atleast there's a movie.but since iv'e played the videogame i certainly enjoy playing every zelda game whether it's on platform or handheld or on the internet.but wen the next zelda game comes in for play,i will play it 16/7.all day.and luckily i got a wii now i just wait till the new zelda game comes out.i bet it will be out of this world.and i just cant wait.:)

I own and have beaten all the zelda games and in my view the best game in the series so far has been the Ocarina of time just because the game was filled with so much almost as much as was in twilight if not more. Thats saying alot to considering the difference between Wii and N64 capabilities. I think they should make a game that is much like Ocarina in the sense of endless temples and tasks to side quests that you could base a game off of and also unlike twilight actually make the game slightly difficult so it takes you more than 3 days to beat. And even though some of the camera angles in third person are horrible (for instince castle town) it is to small a flaw to change the great 3rd person view of hyrule that makes some scenes, landscapes and Dungeons/Temples so much more impressive.

Comment #13 by: Max on 25 Jul 2008, 16:09 UTC reply to this comment

word of mouth says that they were trying to make zelda play a bigger role in the up coming game. maybe even as a playable character. that would be fun.

then i must of sent it to fakes those beeeping fakes.well the son of link that i made up link doesnt have a wife link found him as a abandond baby in a place called hyrule canyon. but i might use gamemaker who knows

i dont care if the graphics are the same as wind waker or oot its not the graphics,if you were a true gamer and a true zelda fan you would know that graphics dont count as much as gameplay and stuff like the oot it had bad graphics so what?it turned out to be the best game of mankind no games have anymore originality just showing off there graphics i thank miyamoto for keeping his games original unlike the other games look at halo 3 awsome graphics compared to the graphics.....hows the gameplay? if any game disigners are reading this think agian when making a game - graphic show off? - or gaming ginius? i am a 12 year old i have played zelda since 1999 so nintendo think twice also.....

I don't care how friggin long it takes, I'ma gunna get that new zelda game if I have to save up for a year!

Anyway I think that with Nintendo's history of super awesome innovation, they could conceivably come up with a great idea for a first person Zelda game.

Stuff like throwing hooks on top of walls and climbing up, super-sensitive swordplay, punching, throwing, solving puzzles with hand motions, precise archery, and of course to replace the ever so entertaining option of rolling link into the trunks of trees, you might be able to hit people in the face with your shield.

And hey what about the possibility of switching between third-person and first-person?Like what Twilight Princess did with Link's wolf form?

And who's to say that the next game won't be more focused on combat between
Hylians and Hylians instead of monster based action. As far as I'm concerned, I don't think they can bring Gannon back after the events in the end of Twilight Princess. Maybe there will be wars between races or something. That sounds more like what would happen if halo influenced Hyrule.

Comment #19 by: Pero on 25 Sep 2008, 19:52 UTC reply to this comment

I hope it stays along the lines of OOT and TP.
And they should make really long. I like a game that takes forever to beat.

Well I have been playing Zelda games for life.... I have all The Legend of Zelda game that has come out and all the other games were Link comes out, and I feel.... If they are going to make a first person game and take the path of the Link's Crossbow shooting game....... I think they are making there third mistake on Zelda history.... They switch the game once to side scrolling view and it sucks....... It was the worst game in Zelda history.... And if they do the first person shit.... the legend will be broken.... and if they are going to do like Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Season.... bring out two games at once.... they are making another mistake... cause much pf the Zelda fans didn't even know that does game existed........ and in Twilight Princess.... It was almost the same plot as Ocarina of Time..... If they are going to make a new game.... they should call it The Legacy of Link...... and they should begun the story from the begging... cause I played all the games and the story is fucked up.... plus in every game Zelda is shown from one to three times per game.... or even non... like in The Legend of Zelda Links Awakening it sucks....

Comment #23 by: adultlink210 on 04 Nov 2008, 19:28 UTC reply to this comment

it would be nice to bring the series back to navi as your "guide" Add in the concepts of timed events like in majoras mask. The long temples from ocarina of time, the graphics from twilight prinsess, but add an online update every so often to add to the gameplay like in the morrowein game oblivion. If they continued a quest line it would be nice. Well i wana write more but i g2g.

Comment #24 by: i like zelda on 08 Nov 2008, 21:56 UTC reply to this comment

i think they should make a zleda that is realistic with blood instead of a 'puff' of smoke . so liek if link get shot at with an arrow he shoudl have to pull it out n if you get rip you need to get it sown up by some1 in a village. n i didnt like the idea of crossbow . it should ( im my oppinion) stick to the same time era as OOT.

Comment #25 by: i like Zelda on 08 Nov 2008, 22:04 UTC reply to this comment

i think they should make a zelda 4 an older audience like 16+ with blood and gore, as theyve got the relay kiddie version of zelda like windwaker and phantom hourglass. and they shoudl also keep they same time era as OOT i didn tliek TW as it was in the future . i mean all these different time eara n yet theres the same names for the villains e.g gannondorf . same name for princess e.g zelda n same name 4 hourse and main guy link its just abit.. wierd . i also didnt like links crossbow training it just wasnt zelda. i also thougththe design of link in OOT was better than TW , but dont get me wrong TW was a good game i just preferd OOT

Comment #26 by: i like Zelda on 08 Nov 2008, 22:09 UTC reply to this comment

i also think there should be proper voices in the next zelda

Comment #27 by: adultlink210 on 09 Nov 2008, 16:42 UTC reply to this comment

link was the same design in twp as oot. upgraded graphics. But blood and gore although awsome, will never happen in zelda. They need to appeal to bigger audiences and wewill play the games blood or not. And normally there is only one big zealda game per platform realese but twp was origginally for the gamecube so there is a huge chance that we can see a game for the wii. And i think everyone here agrees that Windwaker was not a zealda game. and links crossbow training was a minigame only to use your new wii zaper with.

Twilight was held back to be a launch title on the wii, it was ready for the cube well before. Most people got it for the cube because there was a supply shortage of wii's (can't you remember) - most people still have thier cubes even though thier wii's are cubes as well. Your a nintendo n00b, talking about stuff you have no idea about. Even 8 year olds know more about it than you.

Come to ndsroms.com IRC for more game information and don't think you can blag your way into being knowledgeable it doesn't wash with most people.

I have heard many rumors as well as everyone else ranging from the first person view of gameplay, a futuristic setting, etc. But they are what they are, rumors! Everyone can contemplate on what the new game will have in store but unless YOU work for Nintendo development then YOU don't know what the game will be. Nintendo knows how to make the public happy and they wont strafe away from that. I am a die-hard fan of the series and even if the game ends up being crappy (which I doubt) I will love up on it like any new installment in the Zelda series. So far, every Zelda game has not disappointed and always leaves you wanting more. Have faith and hope for the best in the new Zelda title! Nintendo will take care of you.

O.K. I have played TWP, OOC, Wind Waker, and have started on Phantom hour glass, and here are my opinions: Twilight Princess was my absolute favorite mainly due to graphics and the fact that I fell in love with midna. Wind Waker was interesting, yet had it's annoying parts and i'm more partial to the realistic graphics. I dislike Phantom Hourglass because I dislike most handheld games and I'm annoyed by the game play. The unlimited cannon fire was nice, though. OOT was lots of fun. I played it on a version made for GC in a specialty pack my friend bought. I loved the Goron sword and the game play was good. of course the graphics wernt great, but I can't complain. I heard some rumors that the new Link was going to take place in a western style, whitch was hard to believe. I highly doubt this rumor, myself... I played the GC version of TWP because 1: I didn't have a wii when I bought it, and 2: I don't really like the wii controllers. They annoy me. When I play SSBB, I always use a gamecube controller, and all my friends are the same. Now that it is 2009, I wonder if the new Zelda will come out this year if we haven't seen anything (trailers and such) realesed from nintendo, Have we? I do hope to see midna again, or someone like her, but that is just me. Have fun, all you zelda fans =)

I think a new series incorporating backstrories on the Sages of Hyrule and a more elaborate History of Din, Farore , and Nayru would be awesome. And they should most definitely change zeldas dress pink and give her back blonde hair. It would also be cool to have all of the races ( Gorons, Twili, Rito, zora, deku,. .ect) encorporated into the game (exept stupid oocca I hate them :)) and a new female villain wouldnt hurt

i would hate for zelda to have things like armored elephants or a glider. zelda just isnt like that nor should it ever become like that. i really hope they keep the standards they set with twilight princess

well there is something wrong with that. The problem is that he is not about to leave with Iliam and Colin on his journy. The right thing to say is that Iliam takes Epona from Link because she notices she is injured and got mad. So she takes Epona to the spring right outsib=de of their village. Then you find Colin and he tells you to go through the other way while he talks to Iliam. THEN the monsters ambush them take Iliam and Colin and leave Link unconscious. Duh everyone knows that.

I really believe that thye should carry on where they left off. The Twilight Princess was such a great game, I think they should do their first sequel to one of the games instead of messing with the already confusing time-line anymore.
Maybe something went wrong when Midna returned to the Twilight Realm. Nothing is ever as straight forward as it seems in the Legend of Zelda series and thats what makes people come back time and time again. The fans still loving the game after all this time proves that they are doing something right.

Comment #36 by: imhere101 on 26 May 2009, 14:48 UTC reply to this comment

Ugh, how can people even think of a 1st person zelda game. That's completely absurd.People need to get off the first person shooters and seriously get off the idea that their going to make a first person zelda game.To many addicted people to halo and the metal gear series, your just blurting out ideas you want to see in a zelda game. The stupidest idea ever. Trust me. The new Zelda game should, in my opinion, be follow the same game play as the previous games and should use the wii to it's full potential. I'm a hardcore fan of the zelda's series and will always buy their games, so if they follow my idea or not, I will buy it either way. And the May's edition of Game Informer just stated that the Zelda staff were actually not working or trying hard to get on with the project. Even though it's just a rumor, i hope it isn't true.

Im sure it will be on the Wii 2 console.

Comment #38 by: Frazer on 04 Aug 2009, 02:04 UTC reply to this comment

I'm a hardcore Zelda fan, and have beaten almost every Legend of Zelda game. From the Gameboy ones to The Twilight Princess and Link's Crossbow training. My favorite game was OOT with TWP being a close second. Personally, I liked the WindWaker, but found it rather boring, annoying, tedious and far too easy. I didnt mind the graphics, and I liked the boat sailing idea, but it wasn't at all difficult. Now Majora's Mask on the other hand was extremely difficult, and I found it annoying how it copied OOT's engine, and totally screwed with everything. It was unique, yes, but not my style. I didn't like the time thing, and the whole out of Hyrule experience, because Hyrule is my home in this game. :'(
Ocarina of Time was my favorite due to its inovative storyline, for it was the first of its kind, upgraded from the GBA version. I loved the graphics, and how it wasn't easy but actually difficult, and how unlike TWP the dungeons took a while to complete. TWP was my 2nd favorite, but the game was wayyy too easy, and the bosses only took one try, 2 at the most. I found the game kind of abruptly ended, and its sidequests were not as good as OOT. It was a near copy of OOT gameplay wise, obviously not storyline wise other than save the whole damsel in distress thing. OOT's sidequests were amazing! You had to do certain things with time limits, and some other events that actually paid off with usefull items, for instance a bracelet allowing you to dive deaper. TWP's sidequests really didnt affect the game, and if you didnt do them or even talk to a person, oh well, you can go kill Ganondorf easily still and it doesnt affect the game.
Now, my thoughts on the next game are this, and it sounds really cool to me. Miyamoto said after making the Twilight Princess that it would be the last of its kind. This is an extremely good way for him to get people talking, and thinking of what he means by that. Does he mean the realistic graphics, and that from now on only WindWaker cel-shaded graphics will be used? Or does he mean the saving Zelda storyline plot will be abolished? Or perhaps, We will never be able to run through Hyrule's open, green, inviting fields with its triumphant music we have all come to love and that maybe, the next game of the Zelda franchise will have us seeing hyrule flooded, and explain how WindWaker's world came to be?
I am leaning towards the last idea. I dont know if it will be the cel-shaded graphics of the WindWaker, I thought it would be amazing to have upgraded TWP graphics in a WindWaker world! Either way, I think we will see why, how and when Hyrule was flooded, the effects and then we will have to struggle to mountain tops for survival, and build cities above hyrule. I think that TWP is before Windwaker and that in the next game, or the next couple, we will see what happens to the world of hyrule. I would be frustrated and dissapointed if The Legend of Zelda became a First person 'stabber' where link runs around with no storyline chopping up skeletons, monsters and ganondorfs. And i am really hoping for the timeline to stay the same, I would hate for a crossbow to be in the next one, because where will it end? maybe after a couple more we will get guns, sniper rifles and tanks? That would be awful and would ruin it for the die hard, hardcore zelda fans like me. Truthfully, the new game for DS, Spirit Tracks is even taking it too far.... i mean a train??? What the hell? that just pisses me off. What's wrong with freaking epona?! a boats one thing, and i'm fine with his sailboat in Windwaker, but a locamotive that he conducts?! I mean come on. But, of course, since its a zelda game i will buy it, play it, beat it and end up liking it... but i would rather stick to the timeline of OOT.
So what are your guys' ideas for the new game? Think my idea of Hyrule getting flooded right after TWP and before WindWaker is good, or bad? I think it would be good... and i wouldn't care about windwaker style celshaded graphics or upgraded, improved TWP graphics
XD

Oh, and they are for sure using the new WiiMotion Plus, that is 100% sure... which means that we can actually guide the sword with the slightest hand movements, and the sword on-screen would move the same as your hand moves
:)

I think it would be sweat if you put the wii remote into a sword type thing like how they made it so when you play tennis you can put it into a tennis racket. So they could make it so you put the remote into a sword.
That would be fricken awesome

I think they should make anohter one. peole love the franchise and i played it when i was 10. i beat ocarina 11 times. i loved it ive played most of them and i just wanted to know would it be cool if they remade the ocarina again and the one with the masks.? and other people say they want something with future in it... which is stupid that justs ruins the franchise and no one would buy it. if they stop making zekda games people are going to be ferious.

Comment #43 by: white knight on 25 Sep 2009, 13:25 UTC reply to this comment

I also think they should make it a little more longer and make it into a rated "T" again because people like the real life version of it. i know i do but people have there own opions. OOT was the best of the best and they should remake it again. and with the wii motion plus it would be really cool to actually move the sword in the direction u want and they should include it into the game becase those are exspensive. do you think they should let u go like online and meet other people and customize the person you want on there? it would be kool and battle people. and play for missions online which people would like

Comment #44 by: Black knight on 02 Jan 2010, 09:24 UTC reply to this comment

I think they should give it more action but they should seriously make the bosses and the dungeons ALOT harder I mean twilights graphics were AMAZING but it was lacking the hardness to it I mean think about Orcarina the water temple! no one could figure it out... anyways they should make the bosses harder the dungeons longer and harder the maps bigger but I was also thinking I know they won't but it'll be really cool if they re-made EVERY Zelda classic like from Majora's Mask all the way to The Legend of Zelda and just re-make them in Twilight Princess Graphics... just saying...

I think it should should continue were it left off on twilight prinsess because i really liked that one it was amasing i started playing i was on it a week straight no sleep i beat it 3 times i also think you should be able to get lots of weopons, hero clothes that are different colors like one of the other games like blue, red, yellow, green. all different verities. and all of the items that were in every other zelda plus more and be able to buy new houses furniture and arrange it any way and be able to sleep to a serten time or day and be able to buy horse sattles that are different shapes and colors and be able to have boat and fishing poles and be able to buy fishing poles and lots of bait and get pets like dogs and cats to make it reallistick and get jobs you always want add some thing just so more people will play it if they cant do that then i hope they at least let you create your character.and i hope they make a zelda like this. if you something to comment this contact me at austinriffel@yahoo.com or type in austin riffel at the search menu on myspace.com

I remember playing The Legend of Zelda when i was maybe 4, and was never really into it. On my 24th birthday, my parents bought me Skyward Sword for the Wii system. I played the game all the way through, and loved it. Honestly, i didn't want it to end. Then, i ordered Twilight Princess, and it was even better. By this time, i CRAVED more!! I would be delighted if they continued making Zelda for the Wii system, and the story would live on. Thanks for your time.
