14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 for phones preview is expected to launch anytime these days, while a new technical preview for PCs is also likely to ship in February, so it's no surprise that some people thought that Microsoft could bring them out together on the same day.
And yet, that's not going to happen, Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has tweeted today, pointing out that the company doesn't want the two operating system to steal each other's karma when they become available.
Basically, Microsoft wants to ship the next Windows 10 Technical Preview build and the first Windows 10 for phones preview to users at different times and most likely on different days because this way the company would be able to focus on each release better and get in touch with users to find out their thoughts on both of them.
Windows 10 for phones preview this week, PCs updated by the end of February
Microsoft hasn't yet provided us with an official release date for the first Windows 10 for phones preview build, but it's believed that the company would ship it this week, probably later today.
The phones preview will be released as part of a new Windows Insider program that allows those on Windows Phone to register and download the testing bits on their devices in a similar way we did when Windows 10 came out for PCs.
But as far as the Technical Preview is concerned, the next build should be here by the end of the month, and now that Microsoft confirms that it's aiming at separate release dates for the two products, expect them to be unveiled sometime in the next couple of weeks.
As is the case with all the other build updates, the new version will be shipped through the built-in update system that does not require a clean install and also allows you to keep your apps and settings.
However, make sure that you install the latest updates on build 9926, as they include a bug fix that makes updating to future builds smoother.
