US-based handset manufacturer Motorola has announced plans to make two of its top-tier Android devices available in more countries. Latin America is the next destination for Motorola XOOM tablet and Motorola ATRIX smartphone.

The company confirmed that both devices will be available from major carriers in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Peru starting in mid-April.

“Latin America continues to be important to our company’s global strategy, which is why we’re bringing the region our most ground-breaking products,” said Maurizio Angelone, vice president and general manager Mobile Devices Latin America, Motorola Mobility.

“We’ve received an exceptional response for Motorola XOOM and Motorola ATRIX from consumers and carriers in our U.S. and European markets, and we want to build the same excitement in Latin America.”

Motorola's last year success on the US market, when it introduced no less than 23 Android smartphones, made it possible for the company to expand its presence on other unexplored markets like Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Although its devices are still making baby steps with populating other markets, it appears that the manufacturer has decided to make the world's first Honeycomb tablet available to as many territories as possible.

While pushing the XOOM in Latin America may not come as a surprise, choosing the ATRIX to accompany it is indeed unexpected.

Boasting a 1GHz dual-core processor, both ATRIX and XOOM are among the most powerful Android devices currently available on the market.

In addition, the ATRIX marks another world's first for Motorola, as the smartphone is delivered with a qHD display offering high resolution and 24-bit color.

While Motorola has yet to announce the prices of the devices, it is expected that these will be close to those available in North America.

In any case, as we are closing to the release date, Motorola is likely to make the prices publicly known.
