XP has become obsolete for the hardware power Photoshop relies on

Adobe has already dropped support for Microsoft’s most successful operating system up to Windows 7, in the case of Lightroom 4. Now, the company is saying that the next version of Photoshop, CS7, will follow in the same footsteps and won’t support XP.

The reason is simple: XP has become (for some time now) a performance-challenged OS as far as Photoshop’s capabilities are concerned.

Put simply, modern components and operating systems are key ingredients for Photoshop’s superior performance, as it can take full advantage of the GPU power, significantly improving features such as 3D, Blur Gallery and Lighting Effect, which are not available in Windows XP.

This early notice aims at allowing users sufficient time to make migration plans in order to fully benefit from the next major version of the photo editing suite.

The last living day of Windows XP has already been pinned in the calendar by Microsoft, so make a note of it as well: April 8, 2014.
